Other Info:
Hi!
I’m a 35 year-old woman located in Vancouver and I’m looking to get pregnant and have a child as a single mother. I’m looking to start trying in January 2025. I’m financially stable, my life feels calm, my community of friends feels stable and supportive, and I feel ready for (and extremely excited about!) the challenge of parenthood.
My job/educational background, in case you’re interested: I’m a software developer at a housing non-profit in Vancouver’s downtown eastside. I have an environmental engineering degree and worked as an environmental engineer in waste management for about 7 years before making the jump to software development. I really love my job and feel great about what I do!
I’m quite community/alternative-minded, and I’ve lived mostly in collective houses over the last ~6 years, though I presently live alone. I have a good community of helpful and supportive friends. I am a musician and I play bluegrass and old-time music. My music community is very kid-friendly/excited and, while I understand that you can’t force interests and such, at the very least the kiddo will be exposed and involved in a vibrant and inclusive musical community. I think a lot about urban planning and the way that cities shape our lives, and I presently live a highly pleasant, local little life in East Vancouver where 95% of my trips are done on foot and bike, and I feel excited about the challenge of how to raise a kid in the city….but also with lots of outdoors time, as I feel lucky to be in a city where we could get out into nature on a regular basis, hiking and camping as much as possible 🙂
It seems relevant to mention that I do have a partner. We are non-monogamous and do not live together, and I will be a sole parent. I’ve been in non-monogamous relationships for the last ~10 years and feel like we both have the flexibility in this relationship to have our needs met even though me having a child will massively change the dynamic!
I’m mostly interested in finding someone who is willing to donate sperm who can help me fulfil this dream. I’m not completely closed to the idea of co-parenting if….the right person came along and that made sense.
It's important to me that a legal contract would be set up to formalize the donor agreement. I've spoken to a lawyer in BC about this and am happy to find that BC has the most progressive donor laws in North America and this is no issue. I'd shoulder the burden/cost of getting the legal agreement set up. I'm looking to someone that is willing to commit to trying for a minimum of 3-4 months. During this time, I could visit your city and we could do a home insemination there.
I'm ideally looking for someone in Victoria, BC, Calgary, or Edmonton (or anywhere else that I get there and back in a day from Vancouver :) )
